Loch Ard Local History Group

The Loch Ard Local History Group, which serves Inversnaid, Kinlochard and Aberfoyle, was started in 1999 and — in our tenth year — is still going strong. The group has met regularly since its inception. Meetings usually take place in the Village Hall in Kinlochard on the first Monday of the month between September and April or May, finishing in May with a visit to a place of interest. These visits have included, for example, excursions in the Loch Ard Forest, to the Crannog Centre and to Innerpeffray Library.

Our agenda centres around Stirlingshire and Perthshire, but on some occasions local speakers may deal with broader topics. The group, in consultation with the local community, made a CD of old illustrations (engravings, old photographs and postcards) of the district. Some of these can be seen in the History Group gallery.

We have a membership of about 30 and, at present, the subscription is £10 per annum or £2.50 for a single meeting Meetings are open to all and also present an opportunity to socialise. The officers are Chair: David Miller (01877387249), Deputy Chair: Louis Stott (01877382784), Treasurer: Anne McNally, and Secretary: Alan Cooper (01877387270). The President is Peter Joynson, the author of Local Past.
