2009 Rally report
November was always going to be a wet month for rallying in Scotland and the few days preceding the Loch Ard stage saw flooding and closed roads. Thankfully the water levels receded and the race was on.
The morning was relatively dry and after a thrilling first run, Kris Meeke stamped his champion’s authority on the proceedings setting the fastest stage time in his Peugeot. Weather conditions deteriorated for the second run. Torrential rain made the forest road very slippery and completely changed the nature of the stage. The deep roadside ditches were waterlogged and the drivers were fighting for control of their cars. Unfortunately, David Bogie was overwhelmed and he rolled his Mitsubishi Lancer. Thankfully both he and his co-driver Kevin Rae were unhurt. David’s crash forced the Stewards to close the stage. All drivers who did not finish were awarded a nominal time. The overall stage win was initially awarded to champion Kris Meeke. After the event, the scrutineers detected a deviation from the homologation specifications for Kris Meeke’s Peugeot and he was stripped of the win. The event win was awarded to the Skoda team of Philip Pugh and Guy Wilks with Alastair MacRae and Bill Hayes taking second place in the yellow Proton.
Kinlochard community stepped in at the last minute to assist the rally organisers with ticket collections on the local stages. Special thanks must go to John & Bridget, Kate & Crawford, Jane Jackson, Fiona McLean, Colin & Doreen, Drew & Ricky, who bravely endured extremely unfavourable conditions, to raise money for hall funds. Their efforts are greatly appreciated by the rally organisers and indeed the village hall fund.' Thanks must also go out to the whole community for their co operation and patience during the event.
